Fiber Media Converters

The bridge between the copper world and the fiber plant: optical-electrical conversion is a founding GRT discipline.

A fiber media converter does one job — it converts Ethernet between copper and fiber — and that job appears everywhere: a copper-only device that must reach a switch 2 km away, a building entry where fiber must hand off to copper distribution, an electrically noisy floor where the last span must be optical for isolation. Optical-electrical conversion equipment is part of GRT’s core business lines, alongside the network cards and modules that populate the same links.

Converters divide by the same disciplines as the rest of the catalogue: rate (gigabit and 10G classes), fiber type (single-mode for distance, multimode for short spans), and form (standalone units for single links, chassis systems for dense wiring closets). Their virtue is surgical deployment — one link at a time, without touching the devices at either end. When the link count grows or the device itself is being replaced, a fiber network card or a copper SFP module may be the cleaner answer; our team will steer you to whichever fits.

Specify a converter when

Standalone or chassis converters?

Standalone for one or two links; a powered chassis when a closet concentrates many conversions and you want shared power and management.

Do converters need matching at both ends?

The fiber span must match in type and wavelength at both ends; the copper side is plain Ethernet. We spec the pair together.
