Optical Transceivers

The modules that turn cages into links — every rate class from gigabit SFP to 800G, in every fiber discipline.

Optical Transceivers

An optical transceiver is a small system in itself: a transmit device, a receive device, the electronic circuitry between them and a standardised optical interface, packaged into a hot-pluggable form factor. GRT manufactures transceivers across the disciplines a network actually uses — single-mode modules for distance, multimode for in-rack economy, copper modules for RJ45 drops, BiDi modules that run both directions on one fiber strand, single-direction modules for specialised links, and the 40G to 800G high-speed classes that feed modern spines.

Rate classes follow the industry ladder: 1.25G, 10G, 25G, 40G and 100G are the volume tiers, with the range extending into 400G and 800G. Single-mode modules — designated SM — serve long-distance transmission and typically work at 1310 nm and 1550 nm wavelengths. Because GRT also builds adapters these modules plug into, card and module can be specified together from one range.

Will GRT transceivers work in my switch?

Compatibility is set by the host platform and its module checks. Tell us the equipment models with your inquiry, and prove the pairing on your own equipment first with a loaner unit under our free testing service.

How do I choose between single-mode and multimode?

Distance decides: multimode for short in-rack and in-row runs, single-mode for anything leaving the room. Our selection guide in the blog walks through the decision in detail.
